Class Format for February 01, 2022

For tomorrow, in lieu of regular class I will have consultation hours on teams.

All hours will be in the group Farris Office Hours 2021-22. If you've never been during office hours there you'll need to be added to the group. Send me a message on teams and I can add you.

If you want to go over specific work then you'll need to send it to me as well. You can do so by email (university address) or on teams.

The consultation times will be:

8.30-9.30

10.00-11.00

11.30-13.00

Any student of any major or any group can see me during any of the three periods.

After tomorrow, during the break, I will be available by appointment (send me an email or teams message and we'll work out a time).

See some of y'all there!

Class Materials for January 25-27, 2022

This week we're meeting on teams (blech). If the teams group doesn't show up (Trans III group 1, 2 or 3) then send me a message and I'll add you.

We will go over the Santaland text, so if you have particular questions then be ready.

You might want to listen to parts of the original (notable as an example of the author's odd voice and deadpan delivery).

See y'all in class.

Class on January 04, 2022

For this special (hopefully one time) day of remote learning. Class will be on teams and take the form of individual consultation for any interested student (from any of the three groups).

I will be available from 9.00 to 11.00 on January 04, 2022 on teams in the group Farris Office Hours 2021-22. If you are not a member and wish to consult with me, then send a message in the teams chat (or an email) and I will add you to the group.

If you wish to discuss one of your translations then please send it to me first (email or on teams).

If you wish to consult about something else then show up.

If you have nothing to consult me about then I will see you (hopefully) in person next week.

Class Assignment for December 07-09, 2021

Four things.

First: Due to unforeseen and extremely stupid reasons which I will explain later, there is no class again this week... but there is a new assignment for you and here it is!

On the brighter side, this is the last assignment of the (calendar) year and we will have lots to talk about in January....

As with the previous assignment, you may do this by yourself, or with one or two other students.

Since this is a bit more difficult than previous translations (humor, some odd vocabulary) you might like some background information useful.

The deadline is also extended one day (by next Monday, December 13, 2021 rather than Sunday).

The link to post your completed assignment is below the jump (click where it says 'czytaj więcej').

Second: I've been asked (for prospective students from Asia) to collect information on living expenses for students in  Poznań (both in dorms and in private accommodation) and possibilities of work and what kind of salaries student employees can expect. If you have any information you could share, then please send me a message by email or through teams. Your name would not be attached to anything or made public.

Third: I'm planning on going over the assignment about the French interpreter next week when we're back in class! So you might give that a second or third look before next Tuesday.

Fourth: Have a good week and stay healthy!
